Balclutha AFC levels up with the Tiny Mobile Robot and new goals
Balclutha AFC might be a small club, but thanks to a few smart investments, they’re making a big impact, both on and off the field. Alf, a volunteer at the club, has been line marking and maintaining fields for years, and says the Tiny Mobile Robot from Perennial has completely changed the way they do things. “It’s brilliant, an absolutely marvellous machine,” Alf says. “I used to use string lines and a hand-held spray marker. The time saving is unbelievable. We’d never go back to doing it the old way.”

Before the Tiny Mobile Robot, Alf would spend around three hours marking a field. Now, the job takes just 45 minutes and that’s without the physical effort. The club’s Tiny Mobile Robot doesn’t just serve Balclutha AFC either; it’s a shared community asset. “The rugby club uses it, the athletics club uses it, even the high school. It’s multi-purpose, so everyone gets a lot out of it,” he explains.
Alongside the Tiny Mobile Robot, Balclutha AFC also upgraded their goals to Perennial’s Velocity and Alpha aluminium football goals, moving away from old steel frames. “The new goals are easy to move and put together. Two people can pick them up and carry them, great for training and transport,” Alf says. “They’re strong, lightweight, and well built. They’ll last for years.”
Since receiving grants to purchase more sets, the club now uses the futsal-sized goals year-round, including for winter training sessions. The combination of durable design and portability makes them a perfect fit for smaller-sided games and multi-use fields.
As a community-run club, efficiency and reliability make all the difference. For Alf and the team at Balclutha AFC, the Tiny Mobile Robot and the Alpha and Velocity goals have helped them save time, reduce effort, and give more back to their local sporting community.
